Frizzy hair is a common occurrence for girls, and many girls stress themselves out trying to reduce it, but what is frizz and how does it happen?
Why does your hair frizz?
Frizz happens when your hair is dry or excess moisture or humidity in the air. Your hair ends up absorbing the moisture and becomes frizzy. Curly hair tends to be drier by nature so it’s more vulnerable to frizz when it touches moisture.
How can I fix it?
Keratin Treatment
It’s one of the easiest ways, as it lasts for a long time and helps you keep the frizz out. Keratin treatment usually lasts for around three to six months. Until it’s gone, your hair will feel frizz-free but, excessive shampooing will shorten lasting effect.
Use a sulfate-free shampoo
Sulfate helps to remove natural hair oil. So having sulfate-free shampoo helps to reduce the amount of body oil lost, which helps to prevent your hair from drying. Additionally, having a shampoo that’s high in glycerin will help a lot as well. Glycerin attracts moisture to your hair and makes a barrier around the hair to prevent moisture from escaping.
Use conditioner
Make sure to use conditioner while shampooing your hair to keep your hair cuticle hydrated. This helps to prevent the cuticle from opening up and letting excess moisture in, this allows your hair to stay frizz-free. Be sure to use a conditioner that contains glycerin and other moisturizing ingredients such as sorbitol. When applying it, start from mid-shaft and work slowly towards the end of your hair, keeping it out of your roots to prevent oiliness.
Do not shampoo excessively
However, the most important thing is to only shampoo when your hair needs it. Too much shampoo will dry out your hair as even sulfate-free shampoo absorbs your hair’s natural oil. Instead, every two days, only use conditioner in place for shampoo. Conditioner still contains some cleansers without sucking out the oil, so there are no worries about leaving your hair dirty. It contains cleansing properties that don’t suck up all the oil, so for less oily scalp and hair, there are no worries of excessive shampooing.
Change your hair towel
Your hair is at a very vulnerable state when it’s wet and the wrong towel can cause it to just frizz out. Instead, invest in a microfiber towel as the microfiber prevents friction and helps to dry your hair faster. Alternatively, if you don’t want to get a microfiber towel, gently blot your hair with your towel, and gather your hair into the towel, letting it absorb all the moisture.
