Reasons why my hair won’t grow any longer

Here are the reasons why:

Breakage

Breakage is one of the common ways to stop hair from growing. Hair grows at about 1.27 cm every month. If your hair keeps breaking off at the same rate it is growing, it will stay the same length.

Excessive use of hair dye , relaxers or getting an old perm will lead to a major breakage. Chemicals will remove our natural hair oil and cause damage to our hair strands.

Using hot tools like blow dryers, straightening iron or curling irons will also affect hair growth. It starts to fry our hair and make our hair brittle thus stopping our hair from growing any further.

Split Ends

I am sure that all women have deal with split ends before where the ends of the hair splits into 2. It is because the hair is not receiving enough nutrients so the split in the hair will go higher and higher and will end up breaking.

Excessive use of chemical products like perms and relaxants can lead to further serious split ends. This is because the disulphide bonds that give hair its natural structure must be broken.

Disulphide bonds are responsible for both the shape and strength of the hair. When these are broken, the strength of the hair is weakened.

Genetics

DNA

Everyone has a cycle of hair growth specific to them. Hair stops growing once a certain amount of time has passed.
Therefore, once the hair has reached the end of its growth cycle, it will no longer grow and will either break off, shed, or be cut off at the hairdresser.
Each hair strand has its own growth cycle, which is why we typically have different lengths of hair strands throughout our head. This cycle can last anywhere from two to six years, and no matter how well you treat your hair, cannot be extended simply due to your DNA.

Age & Diet

As you grow older, your hair becomes weaker as the scalp would produce less oil which makes it more prone to split ends and breakage. The usual six year cycle would end up becoming two year cycle, making the hair thinner making not grow till a certain height.

What you eat affects your hair as you will need nourishment for your scalp to be strong and heathty. And what food is there to help strengthen your scalp?

Avocado

it is excellent for hair growth and thickness as it contains high amounts of copper that builds up collagen and elastin of the skin holding the hair follicles.

Eggs

it promote hair growth and not only make them thicker but stronger as well. Eggs also come loaded with a combination of protein and biotin, both of which are super nutrients for healthy hair.
